About ShaDey Inc.
ShaDey Inc. is a fictitious organisation created as a teaching case study for enterprise data platform design. It represents a multi-brand retail and consumer packaged goods (CPG) enterprise operating across physical stores, e-commerce, and wholesale channels. The organisation manages the full product lifecycle from market research and product ideation through procurement, distribution, in-store merchandising, and post-sale analytics.
ShaDey Inc. operates a portfolio of retail brands across flagship stores, standard locations, outlet channels, and a direct-to-consumer e-commerce platform. The business spans category management, merchandising, supply chain logistics, procurement, and customer engagement, serving both B2C consumers and B2B wholesale buyers.
The organisation runs SAP as its core enterprise system, with ECC 6.0 as the legacy backbone and an active migration path to S/4HANA. Alongside SAP, the technology landscape includes POS systems, warehouse management (WMS), transportation management (TMS), CRM platforms, and e-commerce engines, all feeding into a centralised data warehouse and analytics platform.
ShaDey Inc. manages the complete retail value chain. Products move through 16 distinct lifecycle stages, from identifying market need and ideating new products, through sourcing from suppliers, manufacturing, quality inspection, warehousing, distribution, and in-store merchandising, to point-of-sale, post-sale service, and continuous improvement based on sales analytics and customer feedback.
At every stage, data flows between SAP modules, external systems, and the enterprise data warehouse. The data platform captures these flows, models them as a governed star schema, and surfaces them as analytical data products consumed by merchandising teams, supply chain planners, finance, marketing, and executive leadership.
The organisation's data model spans eight functional domains, each with dedicated entity groups, source system mappings, and analytical data products.
Data flows into the enterprise warehouse from multiple operational systems. Every attribute in the physical data model carries explicit source-to-target lineage tracing back to specific tables and fields.
This platform is an interactive reference for ShaDey Inc.'s enterprise data architecture. It serves data architects, analytics engineers, data governance teams, and business analysts who need to understand how data flows from source systems through the warehouse into analytical products.
The platform includes a product lifecycle journey mapping 16 stages to SAP source tables, an interactive ER modeler with 24 entities across CDM/LDM/PDM layers, comprehensive SAP source table catalogues for both ECC and S/4HANA, source-to-target mapping documentation, data governance scenario comparisons, and business glossary references.
Everything is built as a static site with no build tools or runtime dependencies. HTML, CSS, and vanilla JavaScript, designed to work from the file:// protocol with no server required.
